Then he sent messengers into the city to King Ahab of Israel, and said to him: “Thus says Ben-hadad:


The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria, settled them in Halah, on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,


Come now, make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.


Then the Lord said to Isaiah, Go out to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Fuller's Field,


when the army of the king of Babylon was fighting against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Judah that were left, Lachish and Azekah; for these were the only fortified cities of Judah that remained.


Harness the steeds to the chariots, inhabitants of Lachish; it was the beginning of sin to daughter Zion, for in you were found the transgressions of Israel.


For her wound is incurable. It has come to Judah; it has reached to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem.
