I am the subject of gossip for those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me.


Go, eat your bread with enjoyment, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has long ago approved what you do.


Ah, you who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!


Ah, you who are heroes in drinking wine and valiant at mixing drink,


I will silence the music of your songs; the sound of your lyres shall be heard no more.


I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth on all loins, and baldness on every head; I will make it like the mourning for an only son, and the end of it like a bitter day.


The songs of the temple shall become wailings in that day,” says the Lord God; “the dead bodies shall be many, cast out in every place. Be silent!”


The Lord of hosts will protect them, and they shall devour and tread down the slingers; they shall drink their blood like wine, and be full like a bowl, drenched like the corners of the altar.
