The wise are cautious and turn away from evil, but the fool throws off restraint and is careless.


Happy is the one who is never without fear, but one who is hard-hearted will fall into calamity.


I will make an everlasting covenant with them, never to draw back from doing good to them; and I will put the fear of me in their hearts, so that they may not turn from me.


According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, forty days, for every day a year, you shall bear your iniquity, forty years, and you shall know my displeasure.”


But if that wicked slave says to himself, ‘My master is delayed,’


Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out,


That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand only through faith. So do not become proud, but stand in awe.


since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;


So if you think you are standing, watch out that you do not fall.


As we work together with him, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain.


You who want to be justified by the law have cut yourselves off from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.


if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.


See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble, and through it many become defiled.


See that you do not refuse the one who is speaking; for if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject the one who warns from heaven!


Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.


As in my anger I swore, ‘They will not enter my rest.’ ”


Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through such disobedience as theirs.


So then, a sabbath rest still remains for the people of God;


Therefore the Lord the God of Israel declares: ‘I promised that your family and the family of your ancestor should go in and out before me forever’; but now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be treated with contempt.
