While Paul was looking intently at the council he said, “Brothers, up to this day I have lived my life with a clear conscience before God.”


Therefore I do my best always to have a clear conscience toward God and all people.


Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.


let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy.


I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in earnest prayer to God on my behalf,


Indeed, this is our boast, the testimony of our conscience: we have behaved in the world with frankness and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God—and all the more toward you.


Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.


At the same time pray for us as well that God will open to us a door for the word, that we may declare the mystery of Christ, for which I am in prison,


so that you may behave properly toward outsiders and be dependent on no one.


Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified everywhere, just as it is among you,


But the aim of such instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith.


Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that, though they malign you as evildoers, they may see your honorable deeds and glorify God when he comes to judge.


yet do it with gentleness and reverence. Keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who abuse you for your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame.


And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you—not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
