I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. When he commits iniquity, I will punish him with a rod such as mortals use, with blows inflicted by human beings.


His father had never at any time displeased him by asking, “Why have you done thus and so?” He was also a very handsome man, and he was born next after Absalom.


Those who spare the rod hate their children, but those who love them are diligent to discipline them.


Discipline your children while there is hope; do not set your heart on their destruction.


Folly is bound up in the heart of a boy, but the rod of discipline drives it far away.


The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a mother is disgraced by a neglected child.


Discipline your children, and they will give you rest; they will give delight to your heart.


There they strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue in the faith, saying, “It is through many persecutions that we must enter the kingdom of God.”


But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.


Know then in your heart that as a parent disciplines a child so the Lord your God disciplines you.


Why then look with greedy eye at my sacrifices and my offerings that I commanded, and honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choicest parts of every offering of my people Israel?’


The fate of your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, shall be the sign to you—both of them shall die on the same day.


For I have told him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, because his sons were blaspheming God, and he did not restrain them.
