One who augments wealth by exorbitant interest gathers it for another who is kind to the poor.


Those who walk righteously and speak uprightly, who despise the gain of oppression, who wave away a bribe instead of accepting it, who stop their ears from hearing of bloodshed and shut their eyes from looking on evil,


And you, mortal, prophesy; Strike hand to hand. Let the sword fall twice, thrice; it is a sword for killing. A sword for great slaughter— it surrounds them;


I too will strike hand to hand, I will satisfy my fury; I the Lord have spoken.


Mortal, mark out two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to come; both of them shall issue from the same land. And make a signpost, make it for a fork in the road leading to a city;


Its officials within it are like wolves tearing the prey, shedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain.


They come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but they will not obey them. For flattery is on their lips, but their heart is set on their gain.


They do not know how to do right, says the Lord, those who store up violence and robbery in their strongholds.
