Mortal, has not the house of Israel, the rebellious house, said to you, “What are you doing?”


O mortal, propound a riddle, and speak an allegory to the house of Israel.


The word of the Lord came to me:


And utter an allegory to the rebellious house and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Set on the pot, set it on, pour in water also;


And when your people say to you, “Will you not show us what you mean by these?”


Then I said, “Ah Lord God! I have never defiled myself; from my youth up until now I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by animals, nor has carrion flesh come into my mouth.”


I spoke to the prophets; it was I who multiplied visions, and through the prophets I will bring destruction.


“I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but will tell you plainly of the Father.


Also some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers debated with him. Some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign divinities.” (This was because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.)
