I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth; so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted.


For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter,


If the Lord of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we would have been like Sodom, and become like Gomorrah.


The remnant of the trees of his forest will be so few that a child can write them down.


For though your people Israel were like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness.


For thus it shall be on the earth and among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, as at the gleaning when the grape harvest is ended.


Even if a tenth part remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak whose stump remains standing when it is felled.” The holy seed is its stump.


For I am with you, says the Lord, to save you; I will make an end of all the nations among which I scattered you, but of you I will not make an end. I will chastise you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished.


For thus says the Lord: The whole land shall be a desolation; yet I will not make a full end.


And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them through the countries.


The word of the Lord came to me:


For thus says the Lord God: How much more when I send upon Jerusalem my four deadly acts of judgment, sword, famine, wild animals, and pestilence, to cut off humans and animals from it!


But when they came to the nations, wherever they came, they profaned my holy name, in that it was said of them, “These are the people of the Lord, and yet they had to go out of his land.”


Then you shall remember your evil ways, and your dealings that were not good; and you shall loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominable deeds.


The sword is outside, pestilence and famine are inside; those in the field die by the sword; those in the city—famine and pestilence devour them.


And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.


For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.


And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “Though the number of the children of Israel were like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will be saved;
