I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.


“Go and tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his land.”


Say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you to say, “Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness.” But until now you have not listened.


For you are our father, though Abraham does not know us and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O Lord, are our father; our Redeemer from of old is your name.


Yet, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.


Is Israel a slave? Is he a homeborn servant? Why then has he become plunder?


With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will let them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I have become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.


When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.


A son honors his father, and servants their master. If then I am a father, where is the honor due me? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, “How have we despised your name?”


and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, “Out of Egypt I have called my son.”


They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises;


and I will be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”


You are children of the Lord your God. You must not lacerate yourselves or shave your forelocks for the dead.


Do you thus repay the Lord, O foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father, who created you, who made you and established you?


and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,


In fulfillment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
