O Lord, God of Israel, you are just, but we have escaped as a remnant, as is now the case. Here we are before you in our guilt, though no one can face you because of this.”


Even when they had cast an image of a calf for themselves and said, ‘This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,’ and had committed great blasphemies,


You have been just in all that has come upon us, for you have dealt faithfully and we have acted wickedly;


You shall not make gods of silver alongside me, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold.


You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.


On the next day Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. But now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”


He was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.


“All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, refusing to obey your voice. So the curse and the oath written in the law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out upon us, because we have sinned against you.


we have sinned and done wrong, acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and ordinances.


Open shame, O Lord, falls on us, our kings, our officials, and our ancestors, because we have sinned against you.
