After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”


But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”


Then Jacob woke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place—and I did not know it!”


God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.”


Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God,


Then Moses went up to God; the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the Israelites:


There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed.


Moses said to the Lord, “See, you have said to me, ‘Bring up this people’; but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’


“so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”


The Lord summoned Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying:


Then he heard a voice saying, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat.”


One afternoon at about three o'clock he had a vision in which he clearly saw an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius.”


He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”


with the choice gifts of the earth and its fullness, and the favor of the one who dwells on Sinai. Let these come on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.


Now the Lord came and stood there, calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”


Then the Lord called, “Samuel! Samuel!” and he said, “Here I am!”


The Lord called again, “Samuel!” Samuel got up and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.”


The Lord called Samuel again, a third time. And he got up and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy.
