On the eighth day they held a solemn assembly; for they had observed the dedication of the altar seven days and the festival seven days.


You shall also anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, so that the altar shall be most holy.


And you shall take some of its blood, and put it on the four horns of the altar, and on the four corners of the ledge, and upon the rim all around; thus you shall purify it and make atonement for it.


For seven days you shall provide daily a goat for a sin offering; also a bull and a ram from the flock, without blemish, shall be provided.


“Seventy weeks are decreed for your people and your holy city: to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.


Thus he shall make atonement for the sanctuary, because of the uncleannesses of the people of Israel, and because of their transgressions, all their sins; and so he shall do for the tent of meeting, which remains with them in the midst of their uncleannesses.


Then he shall take off his vestments and put on other garments, and carry the ashes out to a clean place outside the camp.


He sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all its utensils, and the basin and its base, to consecrate them.


If one carries consecrated meat in the fold of one's garment, and with the fold touches bread, or stew, or wine, or oil, or any kind of food, does it become holy? The priests answered, “No.”


You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the sanctuary that has made the gold sacred?


How blind you are! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
