The angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit to her.”


All the leaders and the mighty warriors, and also all the sons of King David, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.


Now, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care what you do, for there is no perversion of justice with the Lord our God, or partiality, or taking of bribes.”


The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens on the people, and took food and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God.


So I said, “The thing that you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God, to prevent the taunts of the nations our enemies?


My child, fear the Lord and the king, and do not disobey either of them;


I urge you to put yourselves at the service of such people, and of everyone who works and toils with them.


Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade others; but we ourselves are well known to God, and I hope that we are also well known to your consciences.


Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and of spirit, making holiness perfect in the fear of God.


For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another.


Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord.


Just as the church is subject to Christ, so also wives ought to be, in everything, to their husbands.


Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.


Let a woman learn in silence with full submission.


He must manage his own household well, keeping his children submissive and respectful in every way—


Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls and will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with sighing—for that would be harmful to you.


For the Lord's sake accept the authority of every human institution, whether of the emperor as supreme,


Honor everyone. Love the family of believers. Fear God. Honor the emperor.


In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
