just as the sons of Jacob came in from the field. When they heard of it, the men were indignant and very angry, because he had committed an outrage in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter, for such a thing ought not to be done.


She answered him, “No, my brother, do not force me; for such a thing is not done in Israel; do not do anything so vile!


Better to meet a she-bear robbed of its cubs than to confront a fool immersed in folly.


Like a dog that returns to its vomit is a fool who reverts to his folly.


The words of their mouths begin in foolishness, and their talk ends in wicked madness;


So I turned to consider wisdom and madness and folly; for what can the one do who comes after the king? Only what has already been done.


Then I said to myself, “What happens to the fool will happen to me also; why then have I been so very wise?” And I said to myself that this also is vanity.


So I turned and gave my heart up to despair concerning all the toil of my labors under the sun,


See, this is what I found, says the Teacher, adding one thing to another to find the sum,


Proceed to sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, “There are devoted things among you, O Israel; you will be unable to stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted things from among you.”
