Now Sarah said, “God has brought laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.”


As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out of the window, and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.


You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,


For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.


Then the prophet Miriam, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dancing.


a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;


In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider; God has made the one as well as the other, so that mortals may not find out anything that will come after them.


Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God.


Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid, that she has received from the Lord's hand double for all her sins.


‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’

Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her.


Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.


For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death.


Lament and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy into dejection.
