The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord, keeping his commandments, his decrees, and his statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. All the people joined in the covenant.


They performed his signs among them, and miracles in the land of Ham.


Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.


And the Lord said to me: Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: Hear the words of this covenant and do them.


It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord.


And those who transgressed my covenant and did not keep the terms of the covenant that they made before me, I will make like the calf when they cut it in two and passed between its parts:


These are the statutes and ordinances and laws that the Lord established between himself and the people of Israel on Mount Sinai through Moses.


These are the commandments that the Lord gave to Moses for the people of Israel on Mount Sinai.


You are the descendants of the prophets and of the covenant that God gave to your ancestors, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your descendants all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’

He declared to you his covenant, which he charged you to observe, that is, the ten commandments; and he wrote them on two stone tablets.


So be careful not to forget the covenant that the Lord your God made with you, and not to make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything that the Lord your God has forbidden you.

Only fear the Lord, and serve him faithfully with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.
