So Esau settled in the hill country of Seir; Esau is Edom.


These are the descendants of Esau, ancestor of the Edomites, in the hill country of Seir.


It is I who by my great power and my outstretched arm have made the earth, with the people and animals that are on the earth, and I give it to whomever I please.


Mortal, set your face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against it,


You shall be driven away from human society, and your dwelling shall be with the wild animals. You shall be made to eat grass like oxen, you shall be bathed with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you have learned that the Most High has sovereignty over the kingdom of mortals, and gives it to whom he will.

From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live,


He did not give him any of it as a heritage, not even a foot's length, but promised to give it to him as his possession and to his descendants after him, even though he had no child.


He did the same for the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, by destroying the Horim before them so that they could dispossess them and settle in their place even to this day.


You shall purchase food from them for money, so that you may eat; and you shall also buy water from them for money, so that you may drink.


When the Most High apportioned the nations, when he divided humankind, he fixed the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the gods;


and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I gave Esau the hill country of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.
