Moses said to the people, “Remember this day on which you came out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, because the Lord brought you out from there by strength of hand; no leavened bread shall be eaten.


Strike a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; reprove the intelligent, and they will gain knowledge.


When a scoffer is punished, the simple become wiser; when the wise are instructed, they increase in knowledge.


Say further to the people of Israel: Any of the people of Israel, or of the aliens who reside in Israel, who give any of their offspring to Molech shall be put to death; the people of the land shall stone them to death.


The Lord said to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people, and impale them in the sun before the Lord, in order that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.”


If you hear it said about one of the towns that the Lord your God is giving you to live in,


All the people will hear and be afraid, and will not act presumptuously again.


The rest shall hear and be afraid, and a crime such as this shall never again be committed among you.


Then all the men of the town shall stone him to death. So you shall purge the evil from your midst; and all Israel will hear, and be afraid.


As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest also may stand in fear.
