O save your people, and bless your heritage; be their shepherd, and carry them forever.


You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.


He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep.


in all their distress. It was no messenger or angel but his presence that saved them; in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.


It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord.


A son honors his father, and servants their master. If then I am a father, where is the honor due me? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, “How have we despised your name?”


I am not able to carry all this people alone, for they are too heavy for me.


For about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.


Do you thus repay the Lord, O foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father, who created you, who made you and established you?


Know then in your heart that as a parent disciplines a child so the Lord your God disciplines you.
