But the people were silent and answered him not a word, for the king's command was, “Do not answer him.”


And am I to wait, because they do not speak, because they stand there, and answer no more?


Truly, I am like one who does not hear, and in whose mouth is no retort.


a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;


For no one can anticipate the time of disaster. Like fish taken in a cruel net, and like birds caught in a snare, so mortals are snared at a time of calamity, when it suddenly falls upon them.


But they were silent and answered him not a word, for the king's command was, “Do not answer him.”


They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, This day is a day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.


Yet let no one contend, and let none accuse, for with you is my contention, O priest.


And if a relative, one who burns the dead, shall take up the body to bring it out of the house, and shall say to someone in the innermost parts of the house, “Is anyone else with you?” the answer will come, “No.” Then the relative shall say, “Hush! We must not mention the name of the Lord.”


Therefore thus says the Lord: Now, I am devising against this family an evil from which you cannot remove your necks; and you shall not walk haughtily, for it will be an evil time.


I hear, and I tremble within; my lips quiver at the sound. Rottenness enters into my bones, and my steps tremble beneath me. I wait quietly for the day of calamity to come upon the people who attack us.


Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.


You must understand this, that in the last days distressing times will come.
