Then they understood that he had not told them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.


So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality.


Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus killed.


In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking him, saying,


But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?


One day, as he was teaching the people in the temple and telling the good news, the chief priests and the scribes came with the elders


he went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers of the temple police about how he might betray him to them.


Remember the word that I said to you, ‘Servants are not greater than their master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.


So Judas brought a detachment of soldiers together with police from the chief priests and the Pharisees, and they came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.


with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family.


Then the high priest took action; he and all who were with him (that is, the sect of the Sadducees), being filled with jealousy,


Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were perplexed about them, wondering what might be going on.


Then the captain went with the temple police and brought them, but without violence, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people.


They stirred up the people as well as the elders and the scribes; then they suddenly confronted him, seized him, and brought him before the council.


The word of God continued to spread; the number of the disciples increased greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.
