Thus shall you say to them: The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under the heavens.


For it is from Israel, an artisan made it; it is not God. The calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.


“Friends, why are you doing this? We are mortals just like you, and we bring you good news, that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them.


Since we are God's offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold, or silver, or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals.


When they reached Ephesus, he left them there, but first he himself went into the synagogue and had a discussion with the Jews.


While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul passed through the interior regions and came to Ephesus, where he found some disciples.


This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia, both Jews and Greeks, heard the word of the Lord.


These he gathered together, with the workers of the same trade, and said, “Men, you know that we get our wealth from this business.


You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak.


Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “no idol in the world really exists,” and that “there is no God but one.”


Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to beings that by nature are not gods.


There you will serve other gods made by human hands, objects of wood and stone that neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.


For the people of those regions report about us what kind of welcome we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God,


The rest of humankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands or give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk.
