He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God; he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord, the God of Israel.


“Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their backs and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.


Many years you were patient with them, and warned them by your spirit through your prophets; yet they would not listen. Therefore you handed them over to the peoples of the lands.


Listen, and hear my voice; Pay attention, and hear my speech.


Who among you will give heed to this, who will attend and listen for the time to come?


Listen to me, my people, and give heed to me, my nation; for a teaching will go out from me, and my justice for a light to the peoples.


Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.


For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year of King Josiah son of Amon of Judah, to this day, the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken persistently to you, but you have not listened.


Yet you did not listen to me, says the Lord, and so you have provoked me to anger with the work of your hands to your own harm.


Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Because you have not obeyed my words,


and to heed the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you urgently—though you have not heeded—


Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.” But they did not hear or heed me, says the Lord.


Let anyone with ears listen!”


He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”
