Even now, in fact, my witness is in heaven, and he that vouches for me is on high.


Those who denounce friends for reward— the eyes of their children will fail.


A gossip reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a babbler.


A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth works ruin.


Whoever rebukes a person will afterward find more favor than one who flatters with the tongue.


who say to the seers, “Do not see”; and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions,


The dogs have a mighty appetite; they never have enough. The shepherds also have no understanding; they have all turned to their own way, to their own gain, one and all.


For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for unjust gain; and from prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.


Therefore I will give their wives to others and their fields to conquerors, because from the least to the greatest everyone is greedy for unjust gain; from prophet to priest everyone deals falsely.


Thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who lead my people astray, who cry “Peace” when they have something to eat, but declare war against those who put nothing into their mouths.


Oh, that someone among you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord of hosts, and I will not accept an offering from your hands.


So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality.


“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. For you do not go in yourselves, and when others are going in, you stop them.


I coveted no one's silver or gold or clothing.


For God, whom I serve with my spirit by announcing the gospel of his Son, is my witness that without ceasing I remember you always in my prayers,


For such people do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded.


I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience confirms it by the Holy Spirit—


Did I take advantage of you through any of those whom I sent to you?


For we are not peddlers of God's word like so many; but in Christ we speak as persons of sincerity, as persons sent from God and standing in his presence.


We have renounced the shameful things that one hides; we refuse to practice cunning or to falsify God's word; but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God.


Make room in your hearts for us; we have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have taken advantage of no one.


In what I am writing to you, before God, I do not lie!


You are witnesses, and God also, how pure, upright, and blameless our conduct was toward you believers.


not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, and not a lover of money.


Deacons likewise must be serious, not double-tongued, not indulging in much wine, not greedy for money;


For a bishop, as God's steward, must be blameless; he must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or addicted to wine or violent or greedy for gain;


to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do it —not for sordid gain but eagerly.


For they speak bombastic nonsense, and with licentious desires of the flesh they entice people who have just escaped from those who live in error.


And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep.


Woe to them! For they go the way of Cain, and abandon themselves to Balaam's error for the sake of gain, and perish in Korah's rebellion.
