It deals cruelly with its young, as if they were not its own; though its labor should be in vain, yet it has no fear;


Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain.


All in vain I have kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence.


But I said, “I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely my cause is with the Lord, and my reward with my God.”


They shall not labor in vain, or bear children for calamity; for they shall be offspring blessed by the Lord— and their descendants as well.


Is it not from the Lord of hosts that peoples labor only to feed the flames, and nations weary themselves for nothing?


But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them—though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.


through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you have come to believe in vain.


Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.


As we work together with him, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain.


I went up in response to a revelation. Then I laid before them (though only in a private meeting with the acknowledged leaders) the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles, in order to make sure that I was not running, or had not run, in vain.


I am afraid that my work for you may have been wasted.


It is by your holding fast to the word of life that I can boast on the day of Christ that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.


We also constantly give thanks to God for this, that when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word but as what it really is, God's word, which is also at work in you believers.


For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith; I was afraid that somehow the tempter had tempted you and that our labor had been in vain.


when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at on that day among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.


Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified everywhere, just as it is among you,
