The Israelites came back from chasing the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.


When Saul saw David go out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is this young man?” Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I do not know.”


On David's return from killing the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul, with the head of the Philistine in his hand.


The priest said, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah, is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you will take that, take it, for there is none here except that one.” David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”
