But this is why I have let you live: to show you my power, and to make my name resound through all the earth.


‘Have you not heard that I determined it long ago? I planned from days of old what now I bring to pass, that you should make fortified cities crash into heaps of ruins,


It shall be said, “Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstruction from my people's way.”


He will become a sanctuary, a stone one strikes against; for both houses of Israel he will become a rock one stumbles over—a trap and a snare for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience the objects of wrath that are made for destruction;


but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,


to the one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?


But my friends, why am I still being persecuted if I am still preaching circumcision? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.


For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,


For it stands in scripture: “See, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”


To you then who believe, he is precious; but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner,”


And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep.


For certain intruders have stolen in among you, people who long ago were designated for this condemnation as ungodly, who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
