Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion, which is now the city of David.


David occupied the stronghold, and named it the city of David. David built the city all around from the Millo inward.


The following was the reason he rebelled against the king. Solomon built the Millo, and closed up the gap in the wall of the city of his father David.


Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt; he took Pharaoh's daughter and brought her into the city of David, until he had finished building his own house and the house of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem.


His own house where he would reside, in the other court back of the hall, was of the same construction. Solomon also made a house like this hall for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he had taken in marriage.


Hezekiah set to work resolutely and built up the entire wall that was broken down, and raised towers on it, and outside it he built another wall; he also strengthened the Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.


Solomon brought Pharaoh's daughter from the city of David to the house that he had built for her, for he said, “My wife shall not live in the house of King David of Israel, for the places to which the ark of the Lord has come are holy.”
