But the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘You have shed much blood and have waged great wars; you shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed so much blood in my sight on the earth.


Then King David rose to his feet and said: “Hear me, my brothers and my people. I had planned to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God; and I made preparations for building.


But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for my name, for you are a warrior and have shed blood.’


the food of his table, the seating of his officials, and the attendance of his servants, and their clothing, his valets, and their clothing, and his burnt offerings that he offered at the house of the Lord, there was no more spirit left in her.


Moreover there were at my table one hundred fifty people, Jews and officials, besides those who came to us from the nations around us.


Now that which was prepared for one day was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and every ten days skins of wine in abundance; yet with all this I did not demand the food allowance of the governor, because of the heavy burden of labor on the people.


The Lord says to my lord, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.”


You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet,


And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I act, says the Lord of hosts.


For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.


And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church,


the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain-sheep.


When they brought the kings out to Joshua, Joshua summoned all the Israelites, and said to the chiefs of the warriors who had gone with him, “Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings.” Then they came near and put their feet on their necks.
