Amnon was so tormented that he made himself ill because of his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do anything to her.


He said to him, “O son of the king, why are you so haggard morning after morning? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.”


The king of Israel set out toward home, resentful and sullen, and came to Samaria.


Later the following events took place: Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard in Jezreel, beside the palace of King Ahab of Samaria.


But Naboth said to Ahab, “The Lord forbid that I should give you my ancestral inheritance.”


His wife Jezebel came to him and said, “Why are you so depressed that you will not eat?”


Yet all this does me no good so long as I see the Jew Mordecai sitting at the king's gate.”


Surely vexation kills the fool, and jealousy slays the simple.


Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of desire; this also is vanity and a chasing after wind.


But this was very displeasing to Jonah, and he became angry.


And the Lord said, “Is it right for you to be angry?”


When the sun rose, God prepared a sultry east wind, and the sun beat down on the head of Jonah so that he was faint and asked that he might die. He said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”


But God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the bush?” And he said, “Yes, angry enough to die.”

But one is tempted by one's own desire, being lured and enticed by it;


He refused, and said, “I will not eat.” But his servants, together with the woman, urged him; and he listened to their words. So he got up from the ground and sat on the bed.
