When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.


Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and even licked up the water that was in the trench.


But Elijah answered the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then fire came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.


As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven.


No fear of me need terrify you; my pressure will not be heavy on you.


It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes; there was silence, then I heard a voice:


There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed.


The Lord passed before him, and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,


He said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts.


And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.


Since you saw no form when the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire, take care and watch yourselves closely,


Has any people ever heard the voice of a god speaking out of a fire, as you have heard, and lived?


for indeed our God is a consuming fire.
