the Angel who has delivered me from all harm – may he bless these boys. May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they increase greatly on the earth.’


Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.


My sons, do not be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before him and serve him, to minister before him and to burn incense.’

Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the Lord their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord.


But now be strong, Zerubbabel,” declares the Lord. “Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,” declares the Lord, “and work. For I am with you,” declares the Lord Almighty.


So the Lord spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who talked with me.


I asked the angel who was speaking to me, ‘What are these?’ He answered me, ‘These are the horns that scattered Judah, Israel and Jerusalem.’


I asked, ‘What are these, my lord?’ The angel who was talking with me answered, ‘I will show you what they are.’


While the angel who was speaking to me was leaving, another angel came to meet him


‘ “Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.


So he said, ‘These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.’


Take the silver and gold and make a crown, and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua son of Jozadak.


‘I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,’ says the Lord Almighty.


Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.’


‘Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat.


At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.


The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.


Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.


And the people of Beth Shemesh asked, ‘Who can stand in the presence of the Lord, this holy God? To whom will the ark go up from here?’
