You have shown your people desperate times; you have given us wine that makes us stagger.


O God, why have you rejected us for ever? Why does your anger smoulder against the sheep of your pasture?


Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?’


How long, Lord? Will you be angry for ever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire?


How long, Lord God Almighty, will your anger smoulder against the prayers of your people?


How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself for ever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?


Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry for ever but delight to show mercy.


But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Saviour; my God will hear me.


They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.


Therefore the Lord’s anger burned against this land, so that he brought on it all the curses written in this book.
