Then David said to all his officials who were with him in Jerusalem, ‘Come! We must flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. We must leave immediately, or he will move quickly to overtake us and bring ruin on us and put the city to the sword.’


Also our enemies said, ‘Before they know it or see us, we will be right there among them and will kill them and put an end to the work.’


For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.


God, who is enthroned from of old, who does not change – he will hear them and humble them, because they have no fear of God.


Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.


Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.


But God will shoot them with his arrows; they will suddenly be struck down.


With his own spear you pierced his head when his warriors stormed out to scatter us, gloating as though about to devour the wretched who were in hiding.

Saul tried to pin him to the wall with his spear, but David eluded him as Saul drove the spear into the wall. That night David made good his escape.
