One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman washing. The woman was very beautiful,


Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of the builders.


for their sake he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented.


When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea.


But you, Sovereign Lord, help me for your name’s sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.


Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees.


The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.


Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.


Do not withhold your mercy from me, Lord; may your love and faithfulness always protect me.


But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down towards your holy temple.


Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.


But I pray to you, Lord, in the time of your favour; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.


Answer me, Lord, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.


Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?’


‘I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.


I have swept away your offences like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.’


Look down from heaven and see, from your lofty throne, holy and glorious. Where are your zeal and your might? Your tenderness and compassion are withheld from us.


I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us – yes, the many good things he has done for Israel, according to his compassion and many kindnesses.


But you, Lord, know all their plots to kill me. Do not forgive their crimes or blot out their sins from your sight. Let them be overthrown before you; deal with them in the time of your anger.


Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.


Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.


The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him;


Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,


having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
