For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.


When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you.


Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.


O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God.


Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.


Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.


say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.’


I looked, and I saw a violent storm coming out of the north – an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The centre of the fire looked like glowing metal,


A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.


So fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.


Plague went before him; pestilence followed his steps.


‘Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘Not a root or a branch will be left to them.


And fire came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense.


His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing-floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.’


But be assured today that the Lord your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the Lord has promised you.


for our ‘God is a consuming fire.’


how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.


He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
