David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets.


Kenaniah the head Levite was in charge of the singing; that was his responsibility because he was skilful at it.


Along with their relatives – all of them trained and skilled in music for the Lord – they numbered 288.


The workers laboured faithfully. Over them to direct them were Jahath and Obadiah, Levites descended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, descended from Kohath. The Levites – all who were skilled in playing musical instruments –


I will sing a new song to you, my God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you,


Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of his faithful people.


He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.


Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.
