So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it.


But the man of God answered the king, ‘Even if you were to give me half your possessions, I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water here.


‘ “By what means?” the Lord asked. ‘ “I will go out and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,” he said. ‘ “You will succeed in enticing him,” said the Lord. “Go and do it.”


May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in obedience to him and keep the commands, decrees and laws he gave our ancestors.


Turn my heart towards your statutes and not towards selfish gain.


Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbours but harbour malice in their hearts.


Why, Lord, do you make us wander from your ways and harden our hearts so we do not revere you? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes that are your inheritance.
