Then he struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their manhood.

At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well.


‘Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether human or animal.’


‘So I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar and will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests.


Also I gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between us, so they would know that I the Lord made them holy.


‘ “No-one, however, may dedicate the firstborn of an animal, since the firstborn already belongs to the Lord; whether an ox or a sheep, it is the Lord’s.

what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, “I am God’s Son”?


For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.


How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?


By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.


He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
