He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him take an oath in God’s name. He became stiff-necked and hardened his heart and would not turn to the Lord, the God of Israel.


‘Sacrifice thank-offerings to God, fulfil your vows to the Most High,


‘Speak to the Israelites and say to them: “If anyone makes a special vow to dedicate a person to the Lord by giving the equivalent value,


when a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.


and her father hears about her vow or pledge but says nothing to her, then all her vows and every pledge by which she bound herself will stand.

Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.


But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the assembly had sworn an oath to them by the Lord, the God of Israel. The whole assembly grumbled against the leaders,


When he saw her, he tore his clothes and cried, ‘Oh no, my daughter! You have brought me down and I am devastated. I have made a vow to the Lord that I cannot break.’


And she made a vow, saying, ‘Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.’
