I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old –


Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.


‘Son of man, set forth an allegory and tell it to the Israelites as a parable.

because I will reward you handsomely and do whatever you say. Come and put a curse on these people for me.’


Then he spoke his message: ‘Arise, Balak, and listen; hear me, son of Zippor.


So he went back to him and found him standing beside his offering, with all the Moabite officials.

Then he saw the Kenites and spoke his message: ‘Your dwelling-place is secure, your nest is set in a rock;

He told them still another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about thirty kilograms of flour until it worked all through the dough.’


So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: ‘I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.’


Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away.


For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you.


Then the Philistine said, ‘This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.’


Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.


David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
