24 and if this is done unintentionally without the community being aware of it, then the whole community is to offer a young bull for a burnt offering as an aroma pleasing to the Lord, along with its prescribed grain offering and drink offering, and a male goat for a sin offering.

For the dedication of this house of God they offered a hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred male lambs and, as a sin offering for all Israel, twelve male goats, one for each of the tribes of Israel.


Then the exiles who had returned from captivity sacrificed burnt offerings to the God of Israel: twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven male lambs and, as a sin offering, twelve male goats. All this was a burnt offering to the Lord.


Then sacrifice one male goat for a sin offering and two lambs, each a year old, for a fellowship offering.


‘Say to the Israelites: “When anyone sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands –


‘ “When a leader sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the commands of the Lord his God, when he realises his guilt


and the sin he has committed becomes known, he must bring as his offering a male goat without defect.


‘When anyone is unfaithful to the Lord by sinning unintentionally in regard to any of the Lord’s holy things, they are to bring to the Lord as a penalty a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value in silver, according to the sanctuary shekel. It is a guilt offering.


They are to bring to the priest as a guilt offering a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value. In this way the priest will make atonement for them for the wrong they have committed unintentionally, and they will be forgiven.


any of the Lord’s commands to you through him, from the day the Lord gave them and continuing through the generations to come –


The whole Israelite community and the foreigners residing among them will be forgiven, because all the people were involved in the unintentional wrong.


Besides the regular burnt offering with its drink offering, one male goat is to be presented to the Lord as a sin offering.
