14 And they will tell the inhabitants of this land about it. They have already heard that you, Lord, are with these people and that you, Lord, have been seen face to face, that your cloud stays over them, and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.

So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, ‘It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.’


By day you led them with a pillar of cloud, and by night with a pillar of fire to give them light on the way they were to take.


‘Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the wilderness. By day the pillar of cloud did not fail to guide them on their path, nor the pillar of fire by night to shine on the way they were to take.


He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night.


He guided them with the cloud by day and with light from the fire all night.


The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia.


The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young assistant Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
