who say, “Keep away; don’t come near me, for I am too sacred for you!” Such people are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day.


The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.’


If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?


While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.


When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: ‘Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?’


All the people saw this and began to mutter, ‘He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.’


But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, ‘Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?’


and said, ‘You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.’


‘We who are Jews by birth and not sinful Gentiles


He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.


If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them.
