‘To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,


Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.


They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures for ever; their horn will be lifted high in honour.


To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,


They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing.


Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.


A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.


It is a sin to despise one’s neighbour, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.


Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.


The righteous perish, and no-one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no-one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.


Therefore, Your Majesty, be pleased to accept my advice: renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue.’

Now about virgins: I have no command from the Lord, but I give a judgment as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy.

Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.


But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.


Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.


God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.


because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.


But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.


Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
