After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem


Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.


The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptised by him in the River Jordan.


‘The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it.


He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.


John said to the crowds coming out to be baptised by him, ‘You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?


Now John also was baptising at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were coming and being baptised.


John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.
