Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’


Jesus said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.


As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.


Then Peter spoke up, ‘We have left everything to follow you!’


As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.


In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.


But he answered his father, “Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.


Peter said to him, ‘We have left all we had to follow you!’


So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.


so that no-one may boast before him.


For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?


He said of his father and mother, “I have no regard for them.” He did not recognise his brothers or acknowledge his own children, but he watched over your word and guarded your covenant.


What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ
