‘Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.’


‘Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.


‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.


‘At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.


Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.


It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.


For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.’


so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.


‘Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.’


Because of this, the rumour spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?’


But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honour because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
