‘Therefore this is what the Lord says about the people of Anathoth who are threatening to kill you, saying, “Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord or you will die by our hands” –


Your relatives, members of your own family – even they have betrayed you; they have raised a loud cry against you. Do not trust them, though they speak well of you.


And they took offence at him. But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honour except in his own town and in his own home.’


Jesus left there and went to his home town, accompanied by his disciples.


‘Truly I tell you,’ he continued, ‘no prophet is accepted in his home town.


(Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honour in his own country.)
