The king said to him, ‘How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?’


Ephraim, what more have I to do with idols? I will answer him and care for him. I am like a flourishing juniper; your fruitfulness comes from me.’


Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’


But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, ‘I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.’


The tempter came to him and said, ‘If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.’


‘What do you want with us, Son of God?’ they shouted. ‘Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?’


‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!’


But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, ‘Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?’


Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, ‘You are the Son of God.’


When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.


For Jesus had said to him, ‘Come out of this man, you impure spirit!’


He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,


‘Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!’


But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.


When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, ‘What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!’


But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.


She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, ‘These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.’

This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him,


You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder.


For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;


The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.


And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling – these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.


Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.’
